It's not one weekend
Leaf season here isn't a weekend job. It's a two-month one.
The big oaks, maples, and poplars that make Arlington and Falls Church so green don't drop their leaves on one convenient Saturday. They drop them in waves from late October well into December, and the oaks hang on into January. Rake once and you're raking again two weeks later, then hauling bags to the curb on the county's schedule.
Leave them, and a wet mat of leaves sits on a fescue lawn that's still trying to grow, undoing the fall seeding and leaving thin, diseased patches by spring. The answer is a cleanup that's built around the whole season, not a single visit.
What's included
A whole season of leaves, handled
Every fall leaf cleanup includes the same things, whether it's standalone or part of a plan.
-
Two main visits, plus a touch-up
We come out twice during leaf drop, at least two weeks apart, and offer a third touch-up visit for the stragglers that come down after the main fall. Need more or fewer visits for a heavily wooded lot? Extra visits are available by the hour.
-
The whole property, not just the lawn
Leaves come out of the lawn, the garden beds, common areas, and hardscape like patios, walkways, and driveways, so the beds and the lawn underneath both get light and air before winter.
-
Hauled away for you
Leaves go to the curb and are then removed off site within a few days, weather permitting. No bagging, no raking to the street, and no waiting on the county vacuum schedule.
-
Scheduled across the whole season
Visits run from late October into early January, timed to when your trees actually drop, not one rushed visit while half the leaves are still on the branches.
Standalone fall leaf cleanup starts at $452, priced by lot size, and runs from late October into early January. It's also included in our 12-visit landscape maintenance program and in every Potomac plan.
Clearing leaves protects the lawn underneath, and fall is also the season to rebuild it. Pair leaf cleanup with aeration and overseeding, or let us keep beds and shrubs in shape year-round with landscape maintenance
The local picture
Why leaf season is different here
Northern Virginia's tree cover is one of the best things about living here, and it makes fall cleanup a bigger job than most people expect:
-
Our trees drop late and all at once.
Oaks, maples, and tulip poplars across Arlington, Falls Church, and McLean drop most of their leaves from late October into December, and oaks often hang on into the new year. A single cleanup in early November misses most of it, which is why the service is built around two visits and a touch-up.
-
Matted leaves smother a fescue lawn.
Tall fescue keeps growing through the fall. A wet mat of leaves left over it for weeks blocks light, holds moisture against the crowns, and invites disease and thin spots by spring, undoing the fall aeration and overseeding most lawns here depend on.
-
The county programs run on their schedule, not yours.
Arlington County's vacuum collection makes two passes per neighborhood in November and December, with leaves raked to the curb and left there until the truck comes. In Fairfax County, plastic bags have not been accepted for yard waste since 2021, so bagging means paper bags or rigid containers. When we haul the leaves away, you don't have to work around either.
-
Beds and hardscape need it as much as the lawn.
Leaves piled in garden beds and against foundations hold moisture and give pests a place to overwinter, and wet leaves on walkways and stairs are slippery. Clearing them is part of the job, not an extra.
Spread the work across the season, take the leaves away, and the lawn goes into winter ready for spring.

Honest by default
Is our leaf cleanup a good fit for your property?
We’re usually a strong fit if you:
- Have trees on or around the property and want the leaves gone without raking or bagging
- Want beds, walkways, and the lawn cleared, not just the front yard
- Prefer visits spread across leaf drop over one rushed cleanup
We’re probably not the right fit if you:
- Want every leaf gone the moment it falls, all season long
- Need natural, unmaintained, or wooded areas cleared (those are not part of leaf cleanup)
Leaves keep falling between visits, and wind can blow neighbors' leaves back onto a cleared lawn. That is why the season is built around two visits and a touch-up, with extra visits available by the hour.

Five-star reviews from Northern Virginia homeowners
Fourteen years of consistent, communicative property care, and one yard at a time, it’s earned the kind of trust that shows up in the reviews.
We recently used Potomac Lawn Professionals for a fall yard clean-up. I had never used them before. They came on time, worked quickly, and they did an amazing job. The neighbor's kept complimenting how great the yard looked. I would highly recommend them. We were so impressed with their quality work, we have chosen them as our lawn service professionals moving forward.
The Potomac Lawn Professionals team just finished my fall clean up and mulching and I have to say that they exceeded my expectations. My house and property maintenance were a low priority for the previous owners and while I tried to care for the landscaping myself the last eight months, I just couldn't keep up and had to call in the experts. I am so glad I did and will never look back. They worked incredibly hard and left my property looking fantastic. Absolutely recommend!

Common questions
Leaf cleanup in Arlington, VA: answered
How much does leaf cleanup cost in Arlington, VA?
Standalone fall leaf cleanup starts at $452 and is priced by lot size, since the number of trees and the size of the property drive how long it takes. Fall leaf cleanup is also included in our 12-visit landscape maintenance program (from $299 a visit) and in all three plans: Backsaver from $279/month, Timesaver from $379/month, and Lifesaver from $579/month. All figures are starting points; heavily wooded or larger lots are quoted individually.
How many leaf cleanup visits do I get, and when?
The service includes two main cleanup visits and one optional touch-up visit between late October and early January, spaced at least 14 days apart so each visit catches a new wave of leaf drop. More or fewer visits are available by the hour if your property needs them.
What happens to the leaves?
We move the leaves to the curb and remove them from the property within a few days, weather permitting. You do not need to bag them or wait for a county pickup.
Do you clear leaves from garden beds and patios too?
Yes. Leaves are removed from the lawn, garden beds, common areas, and hardscape like patios, walkways, and driveways.
Why not just do one big cleanup in November?
Most trees here are still dropping well into December, and oaks often hold their leaves into January. A single early visit leaves most of the leaves still to come, so the service is spread across two visits and a touch-up to actually finish the job.
What if leaves blow back onto my lawn after a visit?
Leaves keep falling and blowing in from neighboring properties during the season, so some will land after we leave. That's what the later visits are for. We can't be responsible for leaves that blow back after a visit is complete, but extra visits are available by the hour.
Are wooded areas included?
Leaf cleanup covers the maintained parts of the property: lawn, garden beds, common areas, and hardscape. Natural, unmaintained, and wooded areas are not included.
How is leaf cleanup billed?
The quote is a seasonal price, billed in two installments as the work is done, with a card on file that is charged after each visit is complete. Because it is priced for the season, the total stays the same even if the leaves come down early enough to finish in fewer visits.
Do I need to be signed up for mowing to get leaf cleanup?
No. Leaf cleanup is available as a standalone fall service. It is also included in our 12-visit landscape maintenance program and in every Potomac plan.
Do I need to be home?
No. Most quotes are prepared from satellite imagery, and the visits themselves do not require you to be there.
Does leaf cleanup renew every year?
For your convenience, the service continues from season to season unless you pause or cancel it, and there are no long-term binding contracts.
What areas do you serve for leaf cleanup?
Arlington is the primary service area. We also serve nearby Northern Virginia communities including Falls Church, McLean, Tysons, Vienna, Dunn Loring, Idylwood, Pimmit Hills, Seven Corners, Lake Barcroft, and Bailey's Crossroads.
